The practice was established originally as David R. Hawkes, CPA in August 1987 at 75 State Street in Ellsworth. The first employee was Marion Hessert and many of the clients came from Brooks & Carter, CPAs. The practice moved to 204 Main Street in 1991 and again in 2003 to 270 High Street and to our present location on the third floor of the former Union Trust Main Office at 66 Main Street in July of 2009.
There has been a continued growth from client development and the purchase of the practice of John Martin, CPA in Blue Hill. In June 2008, the practice changed to Hawkes & Quirk, LLC with the addition of Tricia Quirk. Throughout these many years, our Clients are at the center of our business philosophy.
David is the founder of the firm bringing thirty-three years of experience in corporate, individual and estate taxation.
Prior to establishing this firm, David worked with national and local firms, including Price Waterhouse & Co. in Boston, Ernst & Ernst in Portland and Brooks & Carter in Bangor.
He received a B.S. in Accounting from Thomas College and an M.B.A. from Babson College. He is a member of the AICPA and the Maine Society of CPAs. David frequently lectures in his area of expertise.
David lives in Ellsworth with his wife Kathy.
Tricia is a transplant from California drawn back to Maine after a visit in 1975.
She comes to the firm with twenty-three years of experience in corporate, small business and individual taxation. She has been with the firm on a part-time basis for three years while teaching business courses at Maine Maritime Academy.
She received her B.S.C. in Marketing from Santa Clara University and an M.S.T from Golden Gate University.
She is a member of the AICPA, the Maine Society of CPAs and is a Trustee of Maine Coast Healthcare Foundation.
Jennifer joined the office of David Hawkes, CPA in 1999 with an established background in banking and finance. Her prior experience includes 12 years at Union Trust Company.
She is the practice manager as well as staff accountant working in Individual and Trust taxation. Jen attended the University of Maine.Jen is a member of the Maine Society of CPA's, Treasurer for the Noontime Rotary Club of Ellsworth as well as an active volunteer with several other community organizations. She lives in Surry with her husband, Buddy and two children.
Sarah joined the office of David Hawkes, CPA as a tax reviewer in 1998 with an established background in taxation. She received her B.S. from Purdue University and had a 10 year career with Berry, Dunn, Parker & McNeil in Bangor as Tax Senior with experience in Corporate and Small business, Audit and Individual Tax and Accounting.
Sarah is a member of the AICPA, and Maine Society of CPAs as well as a director with Downeast Heath Services and finance manager for Special Children’s’ Friends. She has resided in Ellsworth since 1986, when her husband Jim opened his veterinary practice, the Ellsworth Veterinary Hospital. They have two grown children.
